Tο άλλο σημαντικό φρούριο
του Ναυπλίου, χτίστηκε το
1473 πάνω στο νησάκι των Αγ.
Θεοδώρων, στην είσοδο του λιμανιού.
Αποτελούσε αναπόσπαστο μέρος
της ευρύτερης οχύρωσης της πόλης
για πολλούς αιώνες. «Casteli» το
έλεγαν οι Φράγοι, «θαλασσόπυργο»
οι μαχητές του ΄21.
Πετάγανε μια
αλυσίδα αντίκρυ οι Ενετοί, την
έδεναν στην Ακροναυπλία, στο
σημείο «πέντε αδέλφια» και έτσι δεν
μπορούσε να περάσει εχθρικό πλοίο.
Μετά την απελευθέρωση της πόλης
από τους Τούρκους, το Μπούρτζι
χρησιμοποιήθηκε ως φυλακή. Υπήρξε
η πρώτη φυλακή του Θεόδωρου
Κολοκοτρώνη, από όπου μεταφέρθηκε
στο Παλαμήδι.
Αργότερα χρησιμοποιήθηκε ως
κατοικία φυλάκων και δημίων. Στα
νεότερα χρόνια μετατράπηκε σε
ξενοδοχείο μέχρι τη δεκαετία του
1960. Με τη φωτισμένη παρουσία
του στον Αργολικό Κόλπο, συνεχίζει
να κρατά ζωντανή την ιστορία
της πόλης. Το όνομά του το πήρε
από την τουρκική λέξη μπούρτζ=
φρούριο. Το 1865 ο Γεώργιος
Α΄ θα το αφοπλίσει και σήμερα
αποτελεί τουριστικό προορισμό
στον οποίο φτάνει κανείς εύκολα
με καραβάκι από το λιμάνι της
πόλης. Τα καλοκαίρια οργανώνονται
μουσικές και πολιτιστικές εκδηλώσεις
με Έλληνες και ξένους καλλιτέχνες.
Το χειμώνα το Μπούρτζι δεν είναι
επισκέψιμο.
Another important fortress of Nafplio
is Bourtzi, which was built in 1473
on the island of Agios Theodoros and
is located in the harbor entrance. It was
an integral part of other fortifications of
the city for many centuries. It was called
“Casteli” by the Franks and “Sea-tower”
by the revolutionists of 1821.
There was
a narrow passage between the fortress
and Akronafplia which closed with a chain
to protect the port from enemy ships.
After the liberation of the city by the
Turks, Bourtzi served as a prison, where
Kolokotronis was first imprisoned before
being transferred to Palamidi.
Later, it was used as a residence for the
guards and executioners of the city. In
later years it turned into a hotel until the
1960’s. The presence of this small illu-
minant fortress in the Gulf of Argolic is
a symbol of the city’s history. Its name
comes from the Turkish word Burj, which
means “fortress”.
In 1865 King George I disbanded all
armed forces from the fortress and today
it is a tourist destination that can be easily
reached by boat from the port. Musical
and cultural events with Greek and foreign
artists are organised every summer. During
the winter months, Bourtzi remains closed
and cannot be visited.

Die zweite bedeutende Burg
in Nauplia ist das Bourtzi. Es
wurde im Jahr 1473 auf dem In-
selchen Agoioi Theodoroi (griech.:
Άγοιοι Θεοδώρων – die Heiligen
Theodoren), das in der Hafenein-
fahrt Nauplias liegt, gebaut. Es war
für viele Jahrhunderte ein untrennbarer
Teil der weiteren Befestigungen der
Stadt. „Casteli“ nannten es die Fran-
ken, «Meeresturm» die Kämpfer der
Revolution von 1821.
Die Venezian-
er spannten eine Kette von Bourtzi
bis Akronauplia, befestigten sie dort
an dem «pente adelfia» (griech.:
πέντε αδέλφια - fünf Geschwister)
genannten Ort, womit feindliche
Schiffe nicht weiterfahren konnten.
Nach der Befreiung der Stadt von
den Türken diente das Bourtzi als
Gefängnis. Hier war auch Theodo-
ros Kolokotronis gefangen gehalten
worden, bevor er ins besser befestigte
Palamidi überführt wurde. Danach
wurde die kleine, aber gut befestigte
Burg in der Hafeneinfahrt Nauplias
als Wohnraum für Wachmänner und
Henker der Stadt genutzt, in neueren
Jahren und bis 1960 war Bourtzi ein
Hotel. Durch ihre bloße Anwesen-
heit im Argolischen Golf ist die kle-
ine, strahlende Burg ein Symbol für
die Geschichte der Stadt. Ihr Name
kommt vom türkischen Bourtz, was
«Festung» bedeutet. Im Jahr 1865
ließ König Georgios I. alle Waffen
aus Bourtzi herausschaffen, heute ist
es Ziel vieler Besucher, die mit Boo-
ten vom Hafen der Stadt übergesetzt
werden. Im Sommer finden musika-
lische und andere kulturelle Verans-
taltungen mit griechischen wie auch
ausländischen Künstlern statt. In den
Wintermonaten ist das Bourtzi ge-
schlossen und kann nicht besichtigt
werden.
