Poros ist eine Vulkaninsel mit reicher Vegetation,
die mit ihren traumhaft schönen Buchten von tiefb-
lauem Wasser umgeben ist. Sie liegt im südwestli-
chen Teil des Saronischen Golfs, nur eine Handbreit
von der Küste des Peloponnes entfernt. Auf der nur
31 qkm großen Insel leben etwa 4.500 Menschen,
das Klima ist mit seinen frischen Sommern und sehr
milden Wintern sehr angenehm. Poros bedeutet
soviel wie Passage, Durchgang und rührt von dem
etwa 200 Meter breiten Kanal her, der die Insel
von der Hafenstadt Galatas trennt.
Ο Πόρος, είναι ένα ηφαιστειογενές νησί με
πυκνή βλάστηση και γραφικούς κόλπους, με
καταγάλανα νερά. Βρίσκεται στα νοτιοδυτικά
του Σαρωνικού κόλπου, ακριβώς απέναντι
από τις πελοποννησιακές ακτές. Έχει έκταση
31 τ.χλμ. και πληθυσμό περίπου 4.500
κατοίκους. Το κλίμα του είναι ήπιο με δροσερό
καλοκαίρι και μαλακό χειμώνα. Πόρος σημαίνει
«πέρασμα» και προέρχεται από το γραφικό
θαλάσσιο πέρασμα (200 μ.) που χωρίζει
το λιμάνι του Πόρου από το Γαλατά που
βρίσκεται στην απέναντι Πελοποννησιακή
Ακτή.
Poros is a volcanic island with rich plantation and
picturesque bays of deep blue waters on the south-
west of the Saronic Gulf, facing the shores of the
Peloponnese. It has a total area of 31 sq. km and
a population of 4.500; its climate is mild with cool
summers and soft winters. The name Poros means
“passage”, from the scenic sea passage of 200 m.
that separates the harbor of Poros from Galatas, a
town located across on the Peloponnesian coast.
