For centuries, Nafplio served as the bulwark of the Venetians at the northeastern end of the Peloponnese, as indicated by the Palamidi castle. This great 18th century fort with the marvelous architecture constitutes evidence of the grandeur of the Most Serene Republic of Venice at the time. Nafplio also played an important role during the Greek Revolution, as indicate its street names, statues of heroes and, most of all, the renowned Constitution Square.
