Towered by the historical monastery of Zoodochos Pege in Poros, next to a lush green creek, right by the monastery’s life-giving spring, stands the “Melistakto” café. A traditional café where you may enjoy your coffee, fresh juices made with local oranges and lemons and home-made pastries prepared by the owners. Don’t forget to taste the cheese cake, biscuit cake, chocolate mosaic, “samali” (semolina dessert), custard filled phyllo pastry (“galaktoboureko”), walnut cake (“karydopita”), almond cake or lemon pie. Accompany your aperitif with homemade tidbits, such as marinated hornbeam, roast octopus with vinegar or stuffed vine leaves (“dolmadakia”). Don’t forget to taste and buy spoon sweets, jams and homemade ketchup with pure ingredients and no preservatives which the owners passionately prepare every year. You may also find local products, such as honey, wax ointment, aromatic salt with spices and olive oil soap.
